Wawanesa will be hosting an Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on June 23, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The event is being held in the spirit of Reconciliation and community connection, bringing people together to celebrate Indigenous culture, traditions, and contributions while supporting Indigenous businesses and organizations. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy Indigenous vendors, cultural performances, and a friendship dance, creating a welcoming and inclusive celebration for the community.

As part of the celebration, a traditional feast of soup and bannock will be prepared and served by Community Helpers Unite, a non-profit, Indigenous-operated organization focused on increasing food accessibility for socioeconomically challenged individuals in Winnipeg’s North End. Through its catering program, the organization also supports youth in obtaining their food handlers certification, helping create pathways to meaningful employment opportunities. The meal will be provided free of charge to community members attending the event.
